Here is a compendium of articles, selected readings, speeches, and other presentations relating to the influence of Native American culture on diet and exercise. Topics include how to find, harvest, and prepare culturally historic foods; how spiritual connectedness can help the diet, body, and mind to fight diabetes; and how the ever changing sturctures of our world affect our ability to hold on to our culture and ways of life.

Guts and Grease: The Diet of Native Americans
by Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, PhD

This is an excelent article debunking the myth that Native Americans in the days of old had diets very low in saturated fats and filled with large quantities of fiberous veggies. Not only does it tell us why the older animals were prefered over the new born or very young for eating, but also how this selective diet made for extremely healthy living.

The article gives excellent informtaion on topics such as wild game, edible plants, fermented foods, and--look out!--Grease in a Glass.

The article concludes with information regarding diabetes and this diet of "Guts and Grease."

Oh, yes. For the students out there: Note the bibliography for some excellent source materials...just in case you need research materials.
